Are you writing for pocket change?
Writers are paid by the word. Some writers make as little as four cents a word, others make 20 or 50 cents a word. The top rank of freelance magazine writers and copywriters make $2 or even $3 a word, but these writers have credits, connections and contacts beyond those of most working writers.

Hobbyist and full-time writers both get trapped.
Hobbyist writers write as a second job, and because writing is not their primary income, they don't have the time to investigate all the options open to them, and they're not experienced in business, so they accept much less money than they could earn if they knew how valuable their skills really are. As a result, they're trapped, making $5000 a year and less for their writing.
Full-time freelancers have another challenge: time. Full-time freelance writers spend all their time writing for low pay. Even though they know that better writing gigs are out there, they're reluctant to give up steady gigs, even low-paying ones, so they have no time to prospect for better gigs.

There are many ways to make a great income writing for the Web, and here's the easiest way: by writing Private Label Content (PLR).
The huge demand for PLR developed because all Web sites need content. However, good custom-written content is expensive: experienced writers know their worth. Why would a writer write an article for $20 when she can make $400 for the same article?

The basic idea of PLR content is that it's content which is sold to people to edit, mash up, or use directly.

For example, if a site wants a series of ten 400-word articles to publish on their site, each basic, no-frills article would cost a minimum of $20; so the total cost of ten articles would be $200.
But what if the site owner could buy ten articles for $20? That's just $2 per article. Of course, at such a minimal rate, he couldn't expect to gain exclusive rights - he would buy PLR rights, knowing that other people (around 200 or so) would have purchased PLR rights too.
It's a good deal for the Web site, and a good deal for the writer too. The writer offering the PLR articles would make $1 a word.
Here's how:
10 articles at 400 words each = 4000 words
200 article packages sold at $20 each = $4000
How long would it take YOU to write ten 400-word articles? An afternoon? A week? If you can write ten articles a week, and sell the PLR content, you could be making $4000 a week - which is $208,000 a year.
